Siemens honours 14 researchers

UAE, December 14, 2017

Siemens, a global technology leader, has honoured 14 particularly resourceful researchers as Inventors of the Year 2017.

Together, these scientists are responsible for some 1,300 inventions and 920 patents, said a statement from the company.

Nine of the inventors are from Germany, two are from Austria, one is from Denmark and two others are from the US, it said.

Their inventions range from a solution for the digital power grids of tomorrow to technologies that substantially improve medical diagnostics and extend all the way to current collectors that enable all-electric drive for conventional trucks, it added.

Roland Busch, chief technology officer of Siemens, said: “Innovations don’t simply arise out of great ideas alone; they also require great skill in implementation.”

“All 14 of these inventors are role models in this respect. They pursued their ideas with passion and are successful on the market with their technologies,” he added.

Every year since 1995, Siemens has been presenting this award to its outstanding researchers and developers whose inventions have made major contributions to the company’s strong performance. Since 2016, this award has also been presented to researchers from outside the company, said a statement.

In fiscal 2017, Siemens filed around 3,650 patents worldwide – an increase of 150 patents over the previous year, it said.

Worldwide, Siemens holds about 63,000 patents. In fiscal 2017, Siemens employees submitted about 7,450 invention disclosures. On a basis of 220 workdays during the year, this figure corresponds to about 34 inventions per day, it stated. – TradeArabia News Service
