Bahrain dialysis centre 63pc work completed

Work is progressing as per schedule on the new Bahrain Dialysis Centre coming up Hunainiya in the Southern Governorate of the kingdom with nearly 63 per cent project already completed.

The BD6.08-million ($16 million) project is being funded by the Saudi Development Fund as part of the Gulf Development Programme, said a statement for the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning.
 
The project is being implemented by Aradus Contracting and Maintenance and is due for completion by mid-June next year, it stated.   

Work is under way to complete the services and external facilities buildings and also the outside wall, it added.

The main two-storey building will have a capacity to accommodate 60 beds. On the ground floor,  it will contain a reception and registration hall, six external clinics, treatment rooms, labs, a pharmacy, X-Ray department, waiting areas and rooms for the nursing team.

The project design takes into account all the necessary facilitations needed for patients and visitors with special needs, which include the provision of parking spaces and ramps close to all entrances, explained Raed Al Salah, the assistant undersecretary of corporate municipal services and acting assistant undersecretary of construction projects and maintenance at the ministry.

In addition, there are provisions for an elevator close to all entrances and rest rooms that accommodate the needs of the disabled, he stated.

The project has also taken into consideration the best green buildings practices, which the government and the ministry are keen to apply to all construction projects, said Al Salah after visiting the project site.

He was accompanied by construction projects engineer Mariam Amin, communications director Fahad Buallay along with a number of engineers from the ministry and representatives from Aradus Contracting and Maintenance.

On the project progress, Al Salah said the work on the concrete structure had been completed, in addition to the construction of the internal and external wall divisions of the main building which will come up on a 8,854-sq-m area.

Work is under way to complete the internal and external finishing works and the related electrical and mechanical works. Also, the substation has been completed and handed over to the Electricity and Water Authority, he added.

The project, which is taking shape over a 21,550-sq-m area, will see three wings for peritoneal dialysis and blood wash, an isolation wing, a purification station for the fluids used in dialysis being built on the first floor, said the ministry in its statement.  

In addition, it will  house the administrative offices and public utilities such as toilets, substation, a guard room and external fence. The dialysis centre will also have a parking lot that can accommodate 232 vehicles, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
