Majid Al Futtaim's $71m Sharjah mall revamp on track

SHARJAH, October 18, 2017

Majid Al Futtaim, the leading shopping mall, communities, retail and leisure pioneer across the Middle East, Africa and Asia, said 75 per cent of the work on its Dh260-million ($71 million) City Centre Sharjah revamp project has been completed and is set for opening by the year-end.

City Centre Sharjah is set to elevate the shopping and entertainment experience for tourists and residents in the emirate as it enters the final phase of redevelopment this month, according to a statement from Majid Al Futtaim.

On completion, the visitors can look forward to an array of exciting retail and leisure additions, including a massive, 12-screen, high-tech VOX Cinemas multiplex that will change the viewing experience for all movie fans.

The city’s holistic shopping and entertainment destination will expand to include 30 new lifestyle stores, many more F&B (food and beverages) options and leisure activities for a great time out with the family every day. And for stress free parking, City Centre Sharjah will also be expanding the parking lot by adding 700 spaces.

The redevelopment is part of Majid Al Futtaim’s planned Dh30-billion ($8.2 billion) investment in the UAE by 2026.

City Centre Sharjah will also be home to the largest VOX Cinemas multiplex in the emirate when the new phase opens. Screening a wide variety of Hollywood, Bollywood and Arabic-language films, the 12-screen, high-tech multiplex will boast a vivid digital image projection system, Dolby Atmos and 7.1 multidimensional surround sound, said the company in a statement.

Moviegoers can choose from the MAX experience with its super-sized screen and increased seating capacity, GOLD by Rhodes – the new luxury in-cinema, gourmet dining concept – or KIDS which is designed especially for little guests, it added.

And for visitors looking to round off the evening with a scrumptious meal, they can choose from the new food and beverage outlets, including McDonald’s for a grab-and-go meal or Nando’s, Chili’s and the homegrown Indian restaurant chain Gazebo for a casual sit-down dinner.

Among the 25 fashion and lifestyle brands extending their lines to the mall are Annabelle that will appeal to trendy shoppers; the lingerie boutique Nayomi and Pakistani ladieswear label Khaadi, which weaves modernity with modest styles.

Other names include Carpisa, an Italian producer of premium luggage, perfume house Flormar and budget furniture store Home Box.

For added convenience, Etisalat, UAE Exchange and Commercial Bank of Dubai will also be available.

Healthcare services are an important part of any community hub, particularly one as centrally located as City Centre Sharjah, said the top retail pioneer.

Making its debut in the emirate will be City Centre Clinic, Majid Al Futtaim’s multidisciplinary health centre, which is staffed by experienced doctors and nurses of various specialisms.

New eyewear stores Rivoli EyeZone and Yateem Optician will both offer optometry (vision health) alongside the latest designer frames and sunglasses. A branch of leading chain Life Pharmacy will also open at the mall.

Besides investing in existing assets, Majid Al Futtaim is also planning to open 10 malls, 28 cinemas and 40 Carrefour hypermarkets by late 2020.-TradeArabia News Service
